Job Function/Requirements: 
  • The position assists and supports the overall Quality program, to ensure site wide compliance in production, testing, and distribution of veterinary biologic products, within the guidelines by regulatory agencies as well as Newport Laboratories and Boehringer Ingelheim
Essential Job Duties: 
  • Has ability to follow SOP’s in an efficient and accurate manner
  • Cleans and maintains aseptic work environment
  • Take inventory on samples and equipment
  • Prepare media, glassware, and biohazard waste for autoclaving; perform autoclaving operation
  • Dispenses media(s) as needed
  • Perform tasks in a sterile and/or aseptic environment
  • Maintain animals and animal barns
  • Perform tests on animals and make accurate observations
  • Successfully and accurately communicate results
  • Incumbent will promote safety in all areas of work and follow Good Laboratory Practices
  • Rapidly and accurately adjust to Quality department needs in response to unplanned circumstances
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Work occasional weekends
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion, able to bend, twist and perform fine motor manipulations
  • Other duties as assigned
Nature and Scope: 
  • The incumbent reports to the Quality Control Supervisor
  • Assists with projects with clear direction
  • Interacts with lab personnel in home department and other functional departments throughout the company
  • Following procedures and adhering to good laboratory practices
  • Accurately and clearly record and communicate results
  • He/she acts within the guidelines established by Company policy and delegated authority
  • Must understand and work with regulatory guidelines established by USDA
  • Accountable for complying with the BIAH/Merial/Newport Business Code of Ethics to the highest standard
  • Accountable for complying with the Company Handbook and all policies set by the Company
  • The position requires a high school degree or GED; 2 year degree and animal experience are highly desirable
  • Ability to comprehend microbiology techniques and language and capable of working in a microbiology laboratory
  • Good record keeping abilities and good verbal and written skills
  • Incumbent must be able to do mathematics through Algebra and be competent in the metric system
  • Competency with MS Office Suite applications as well as Adobe Suite and other database applications of intermediate to advanced level, is highly desirable
