Job Function/Requirements: 
  • The position supports the functions of the department and directs the daily activities of the laboratory setting
Essential Job Duties: 
  • Has ability to follow SOP’s in an efficient and accurate manner
  • Has the ability to troubleshoot and/or modify existing SOPs
  • Assists in maintaining media(s) and /or cell lines used in manufacturing
  • Cleans and maintains aseptic work environment
  • Handles live organisms per home department protocol
  • Assists in home department, trained alternate department and downstream processing as needed
  • Successfully and accurately communicates results to Technician III and/or Supervisor
  • Ability to rapidly and accurately adjust to production needs in response to unplanned circumstances
  • Interpret and manipulate details of manufacturing needs in response to plan for efficient material usage
  • Ability to critically evaluate antigen growth with accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis for official documentation
  • Must be able to efficiently assess media needs and/or split strategies as applicable and troubleshoot growth issues
  • Must manage seed and/or cell inventories to meet production needs and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Incumbent will promote safety in all areas of work and follow Good Laboratory Practices
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion, able to bend, twist and perform fine motor manipulations
  • Other duties as assigned
Nature and Scope: 
  • The incumbent reports to a designated supervisor or manager
  • Assists with projects with direction, observations and/or input are expected
  • Interacts with lab personnel in home department and other functional departments within Industrial Operations
  • Interact with other departments within the company; i.e. Customer Service, Diagnostics, Research and Development
  • The incumbent is responsible for following procedure and adhering to good laboratory practices
  • Responsible for accurate recording of results
  • He/she acts within the guidelines established by Company policy and delegated authority
  • Must understand and work with regulatory guidelines established by USDA
  • Accountable for complying with the BIAH/Merial/Newport Business Code of Ethics to the highest standard
  • Accountable for complying with the Company Handbook and all policies set by the Company
  • The position requires a 4 year degree in microbiology or related field, or 2 year degree in microbiology or related field and 4 years’ experience, or 8 years’ experience
  • Ability to comprehend microbiology techniques and language and familiar with the principles of veterinary biologics
  • Ability to work in a microbiology laboratory
  • Good record keeping abilities
  • The position requires good verbal and written skills
  • Incumbent must be able to do mathematics through Algebra and be competent in the metric system
