Job Function/Requirements: 
  • The position assists and supports all functions of the microbiology in the Diagnostic Laboratory
Essential Job Duties: 
  • Performs bacterial isolation and identification from veterinary diagnostic specimens
  • Accurately reports results in USA LIMS
  • Assists with projects and other testing in the Diagnostic Lab as needed
  • Successfully and accurately communicates results to supervisor
  • Trained to ship Category A & B infectious substances and dry ice
  • Maintains laboratory supplies and equipment
  • Has ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Works occasional weekends
Nature and Scope: 
  • The incumbent reports to the Bacteriology Lab supervisor
  • Interacts with lab personnel within department and other Diagnostics departments
  • Interacts with others within the company: i.e., Customer Service, Research & Development, Quality Control, Production and Maintenance
  • Has ability to follow SOPs in an efficient and accurate manner
  • • Has ability to troubleshoot and /or modify SOPs.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the accurate recording of results, following procedures and adhering to good laboratory practices
  • He/she acts within the guidelines established by company policy and delegated authority
  • Must understand and work with regulatory guidelines established by USDA
  • Accountable for complying with the Merial/Newport Business Code of Ethics to the highest standards
  • Accountable for complying with the Company Handbook and all policies set by the Company
  • The position requires a degree in microbiology or a related field or 5+ years’ experience working in a laboratory or equivalent work experience
  • Rabies vaccination is required for this position
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion, able to bend, twist and perform fine motor manipulations
  • The incumbent must have ability to comprehend microbiology techniques and language and be familiar with the principles of veterinary biologics
  • The incumbent must be able to do mathematics and be competent in the metric system
  • The position requires good verbal and written skills
  • Good record keeping abilities
