Laboratory Assistant - Industrial Operations Cleaning (Evening Hours)

Job Function/Requirements: 
  • To assist and support the Industrial Operations group to ensure site-wide compliance with cleaning requirements and associated documentation within the guidelines set by regulatory agencies as well as Newport Laboratories and Boehringer Ingelheim
Essential Job Duties: 
  • Follow SOP’s in an efficient and accurate manner
  • Empty waste bins or similar receptacles, transport waste material to designated collection points
  • Sweep floors with brushes or dust control mops
  • Vacuum and “spot” clean carpets
  • Polish windows and mirrors
  • Dust or wash furniture, ledges, window sills, external surfaces of cupboards, shelves and vents
  • Clean toilets, sinks, showers, etc.
  • Use ladders or step stools when cleaning ceilings and/or vents
  • Incumbent will promote safety in all areas of work
  • Incumbent will work with minimal supervision
  • Incumbent may work occasional weekends
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion and perform repetitious work
  • Other duties as assigned
Nature and Scope: 
  • Reports to a designated supervisor or manager
  • Will have direction on activities to perform with minimal supervision
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Interacts with a variety of areas and personnel within the company
  • Responsible for accurate recording of activities, following procedures and adhering to good laboratory practices
  • He/she acts within the guidelines established by Company policy and delegated authority
  • Incumbent ensures he/she works within regulatory guidelines according to government regulations
  • Accountable for complying with the Company Handbook and all policies set by the Company
  • Accountable for complying with the BIAH/Newport Business Code of Ethics to the highest standards
  • The position requires a high school diploma or GED
  • Incumbent must pass medical clearance/fit testing, when required
  • Incumbent must have valid driver’s license
  • Incumbent must be able to do simple mathematics through algebra and have effective verbal and written skills
  • The position requires good record keeping abilities
  • Incumbent must be able to understand and follow verbal instructions
