Accounting Support Specialist

Job Function/Requirements: 
  • Support Newport Laboratories and fulfill a critical role in the Accounting Department with duties including General Ledger, Treasury, and other areas within the department
Essential Job Duties: 
  • Posts revenues by verifying and entering transactions form lock box and local deposits
  • Posts customer payments by recording checks, ACHs, and credit card transactions
  • Assist with inventory control processes
  • Perform bank transactions
  • Provide assistance in all aspects of cost accounting (cost estimates, job cost sheets, inventory variance reconcile)
  • Perform various journal entries
  • Provide assistance to the other accounting staff
  • Primary backup to various accounting staff
Nature and Scope: 
  • The incumbent reports to the Finance Manager
  • He/she interacts with numerous co-workers and departments as well as occasional third-parties
  • He/she adheres to local and corporate Standard Operating Procedures as well as internal controls
  • Accountable for complying with the Boehringer-Ingelheim Animal Health Business Code of Ethics to the highest standards
  • Accountable for complying with the Company Handbook and all policies set by the Company
  • The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years in an accounting environment is preferred
  • The incumbent requires good verbal and written communication and good interpersonal skills
  • Must also possess problem solving skills
  • Requires technical skills related to with but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with Great Plains or similar ERP accounting software is preferred
  • Requires attention to detail and multiple task management
  • Ability to work as a part of a team across disciplines
